I believes counseling is a powerful process of coming together in relationship to heal. I was inspired to build my own counseling practice after an accumulation of empowering and disempowering experiences as a client and care provider within the traditional healthcare system. I believes it is each individual's right to be a central participant in the care they receive and strive to offer this experience to those who choose to connect with Healing Roots. Within the counseling process I offers my grounding presence as a foundation for clients to take risks to be vulnerable and confront distress.

​Practice Areas

I specialize in working with adult individuals who have experienced perinatal, birth and reproductive trauma. I have supported many clients with miscarriage and pregnancy loss, unplanned cesarean birth, homebirth to hospital transfer and treatment of perinatal mood disorders such as perinatal anxiety, OCD and/or PTSD, as well as those struggling with parenthood. I also work with clients who are experiencing perinatal grief and loss, who are preparing for a VBAC and those who are trying to conceive or who are currently pregnant in preparation for birth and with self-advocacy in birthing spaces.

​The Counseling Process

We all need a place to feel safe and supported while exploring and processing life experiences. My approach to counseling is compassionate and non-judgmental. I believe each person holds within them the strength and wisdom to heal. I view the relationship between client and counselor as a collaborative opportunity to take healthy risks and lean into discomfort. Through the use of a holistic perspective we will work together to address immediate difficulties while also healing the root causes of distress. 

A holistic approach to counseling allows for a deeper understanding of one’s barriers to wellness. I support clients by attending to their whole person considering the impacts of current life stressors, past experiences, environment, lifestyle, and relationships. Clients are encouraged to question deeply held beliefs and challenge rules and patterns that keep them stuck. Through exploration of mind, body, and spirit, innate wisdom can be reawakened, providing an opportunity to uncover one’s sacred path to healing.
 
I utilize an individualized and trauma informed approach to counseling. My primary treatment modality is EMDR and I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment, Narrative, Solution-Focused, Somatic, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral interventions in the counseling process. I believe it is essential for both the client and counselor to feel the counseling relationship is a good fit and an emphasis is placed mutual connection. I understand making the choice to confront personal difficulties is not easy and would feel honored to work with you. 

Professional Experience

Angie holds a masters of science in clinical mental health counseling from Oregon State University, Cascades. She is a Perinatal Mental Health and EMDR Certified Therapist and a member of the EMDR International Association, American Counseling Associations and Postpartum Support International.

Angie has worked within the counseling field for over a decade in a verity of therapeutic settings as a counselor in a hospital emergency department and acute inpatient hospital, at a graduate research center counseling clinic and as a support staff at a therapeutic boarding school and in wilderness therapy programs.
